"In the influential account by the contemporary philosopher Harry Frankfurt, bullshit describes any statement made without any concern for the truth. The ordinary submission to a discipline of trying to get things right is suspended, in favour of mere hot air, or sounding off. The suspension may be common knowledge, or the speaker may hope that his audience is unaware of his or her irresponsibility. With *lying, by contrast a (deviant) connection with truth is intended, since liars deliberately state what they believe to be false, with the intention to deceive." Genuine definition c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition).

"(Greek, amphibolos, not regular speech) A sentence whose grammatical structure permits different interpretations, e.g. 'She suffered a bad taxpayer's dream' (dream of a bad taxpayer? Bad dream of a taxpayer?). In *Kant a transcendental amphiboly is the confusion of an object of *pure understanding with appearance." c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition) This should help to further demonstrate/explain the reason I take care in the wording I use in my writings (with complete disregard to the consternation expressed by some). There are posts in this forum dating back to March 2008. If this post also remains visible for 8.5 years, I would like to be sure my communications cannot be misconstrued.

Verb- to make, or cause to appear, foolish or ridiculous; to render absurdly or wholly futile or ineffectual, especially by degrading or frustrating means: "Tess was on the point of speaking and revealing all that had happened; but the reflection that it would anger him, grieve him, stultify him, by letting him know that he had instinctively manifested a fondness for her of which his common-sense did not approve; that his inclination had compromised his dignity when reason slept, again deterred her. Happy Fathers Day to all the amazing dads out there. I chose dad not father because to me a dad encompasses the following: The guy who treats you like his own. The one who, teaches you how to ride a bike. The one who is there for you no matter what. The one who wants his little girl to grow up happy. The one who you can go to. The one who, when you start to date guys, gets all super protective. The guy that loves you unconditionally, even when you mess up every once in a while no matter how big the mess up was. He sits on the edge of your bed at night when he thinks you're asleep and rubs your forehead. The one that treats you like an equal and respects you. The one that provides moral guidance and teaches you about life. The one that co-conspires about hiding broken stuff from Mum. He protects and cares and makes you laugh but calls you ridiculous nicknames. A father who his child can rely on. He hugs and jokes and treats his family with respect, caring for the child, making sure that they want to live and keep them from harm from others and their selves. He listens to his child, he cares for their interests and never laughs at their mistakes. He understands his child's dream and ambitions and would go out of his way to help them reach this. He never puts money at a higher importance, and knows that he cannot buy love. A Son's First Hero. A Daughters First Love. Urban dictionary

INSPIRATION, n. Literally, the act of breathing into, as a prophet is inspired by the Spirit, and a flute by an enemy of mankind."Ho-ho!" said the Scribe as he brandished his quill, "I'm full of an inspiration!" Said the blown-up Bladder: "I too have a fill," And he swelled with great elation. Then that writer he sneered: "My friend, your own Is nothing but just inflation." And that orb replied in a mocking tone: "And yours is but dilatation." So they came to blows, and the Bladder blew With a forceful sibilation, And that Scribe's remarks as he skyward flew Were unfit for publication. c/- The Devil's Dictionary (Ambrose Bierce - first published 1911).

INSURANCE, n. An ingenious modern game of chance in which the player is permitted to enjoy the comfortable conviction that he is beating the man who keeps the table. INSURANCE AGENT: My dear sir, that is a fine house — pray let me insure it. HOUSE OWNER: With pleasure. Please make the annual premium so low that by the time when, according to the tables of your actuary, it will probably be destroyed by fire I will have paid you considerably less than the face of the policy. INSURANCE AGENT: O dear, no — we could not afford to do that. We must fix the premium so that you will have paid more. HOUSE OWNER: How, then, can I afford that? INSURANCE AGENT: Why, your house may burn down at any time. There was Smith's house, for example, which — HOUSE OWNER: Spare me — there were Brown's house, on the contrary, and Jones's house, and Robinson's house, which — INSURANCE AGENT: Spare me! HOUSE OWNER: Let us understand each other. You want me to pay you money on the supposition that something will occur previously to the time set by yourself for its occurrence. In other words, you expect me to bet that my house will not last so long as you say that it will probably last. INSURANCE AGENT: But if your house burns without insurance it will be a total loss. HOUSE OWNER: Beg your pardon — by your own actuary's tables I shall probably have saved, when it burns, all the premiums I would otherwise have paid to you — amounting to more than the face of the policy they would have bought. But suppose it to burn, uninsured, before the time upon which your figures are based. If I could not afford that, how could you if it were insured? INSURANCE AGENT: O, we should make ourselves whole from our luckier ventures with other clients. Virtually, they pay your loss. HOUSE OWNER: And virtually, then, don't I help to pay their losses? Are not their houses as likely as mine to burn before they have paid you as much as you must pay them? The case stands this way: you expect to take more money from your clients than you pay to them, do you not? INSURANCE AGENT: Certainly; if we did not — HOUSE OWNER: I would not trust you with my money. Very well then. If it is certain, with reference to the whole body of your clients, that they lose money on you it is probable, with reference to any one of them, that he will. It is these individual probabilities that make the aggregate certainty. INSURANCE AGENT: I will not deny it — but look at the figures in this pamph — HOUSE OWNER: Heaven forbid! INSURANCE AGENT: You spoke of saving the premiums which you would otherwise pay to me. Will you not be more likely to squander them? We offer you an incentive to thrift. HOUSE OWNER: The willingness of A to take care of B's money is not peculiar to insurance, but as a charitable institution you command esteem. Deign to accept its expression from a Deserving Object.

Quoting 'Qefenta1' Pictographs..emoticons.Q "universal language See CHARACTERISTICA UNIVERSALIS." "characteristica universalis (Latin, universal language) The ideal language, projected by *Liebniz, in which logical relations would be so transparent that, when people used the language, there would be no irresoluble dispute, but only the need to 'calculate'. The idea is of a language whose categories and combinations accurately mirror the structure of reality itself, with no potentially misleading human perspective contaminating it. The lustre of this ideal has waxed and waned: it gains when a new notation (e.g. that of the calculus, or of modern *logic) sweeps away old confusion, but loses ground when it appears that any language must be a reflection of possibly muddled ways of life, rather than an independent source of rational Enlightenment." c/- Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy (Third Edition). In light of further/ongoing contention in the forum yesterday and today, I found this especially interesting to note. Imagine that - a Universal Language free of the potential to mislead, corrupt or contaminate communications! If such a language were ever actually possible, I'd wager the mere suggestion to introduce a Universal Language would itself generate vast conflict in spite of any and/or all advantages to be gained.

Some dude: "I just think women who friendzone should be raped." Some dude's peer group: "There are so many things wrong with what you just said that it makes my head hurt. First of no one should be raped, secondly 'friendzoning' is not even a thing." Some dude: "Whoa there I was just joking, relax." Third party: "Hey check out that schrodinger's douchebag over there, trying to pretend they're not sexist." Source: Urban Dictionary. I needed to like it again - so... LIKE!
