If you are just staying in the city (with occasional day trips outside the city like Healesville), trams within 'downtown' Melbourne (which is referred to here as CBD) is free. No need to buy the Myki travel card. Go to Federation square info centre or Flinders st station for tourists cards. Check out st Kilda and inner North like Fitzroy (nice stroll from city).for bohemian vibes for music and shops and good food. If you're after cultural experiences, Melbourne has great world class musical theatres , comedy clubs and art galleries crammed within the city. Spoilt for choice. All accessible by free trams or nice stroll. Trains run all night Fridays and Saturdays. Try to check out the different cultural precincts in the city, eg. Chinatown, Greek or Italian precincts. And the 'redlight' district on king st if that's your scene.😎

Many moons ago,my ex brother in law Mike, who hails from north America, came for holidays. He bought an Akubra hat from Victoria Market and rocked it like a local. Everywhere we went, people gave him a nod or a smile or the wink. He loved it. But he was perplexed how people knew his name. One day he asked me this. I asked him what he meant and in what context? His answer? 'Everyone nods and greets me 'G'day Mike!' 😅

Tried to shop for a couple new jumpers today. Who knew stores dont sell them when it's the middle of the summer here? We are currently in Phoenix, where it was 43 degrees today. Luckily, jeans are still ubiquitous. - Posted from rhpmobile

I've seen these referenced often here. Are they more plentiful than kangaroos and koalas? - Posted from rhpmobile

I'm almost 2m tall. Are big and tall stores easily available in Australia? If I buy anjumper from a regular store, the sleeves stop mid-forearm. - Posted from rhpmobile

We are ending our third day here and we are having a fantastic time. The city is great and everyone has been very welcoming. I've added some of our thoughts so far. I will start with disappointments: Disappointments - We have yet to have anyone say, "G'day, mate," to us. - We have not yet been called cunts, Sepppos, or Yanks (at least to our faces). - Our hotel room toilet flushes in a manner that does not let us watch the water swirl the opposite direction. WTF!?! We didn't fly all this way to watch water fall out of the bowl all at once. Meets or Exceeds Expectations - Everything else. We are having a blast! - Posted from rhpmobile

I believe there's only approximately three roundabouts in the whole of the USA.If you're driving do not enter until it's safe to do so.They're pretty easy once you get the feel for them. Hint watch the entry opposite you it will make the traffic on your right give way to them and create a space for you.

We have one more night in Sydney and have had an amazing trip. Thanks to everyone who sent us ideas or information. We used a lot of it when making our plans. I will summarize some of the things we were surprised by: - Table service is not everywhere. It took us a while to adjust to ordering everything from the counter or bar at most places. It took even longer to get used to paying at the end of a meal at the counter or bar instead of at the table. - Platypus are much smaller than anticipated. - Not a single person said, "G'day, mate," to us. - Cost-friendly wines are much higher quality than what we are used to getting at those price points. - We could not "belly up" to a bar because none of the bars we went tohad stools at the bar to sit in. - We were not asked for ID to board domestic flights. - Diet Coke can be difficult to find, except in tourist areas. - There are no over-pours in Australian bars. Every bartender used a measuring device when making drinks. - Nobody called us yanks (nor seppos). - We could not tap to pay. - Eating at restaurants is expensive, but the food is very high quality. Thanks again, everyone. We enjoyed ourselves so much we have decided we have to come back!
