It depends on context. In this case, where it is and what it is of. Some are ok, others aren't, IMHO.

Definitely sexy and edgy but of course it also depends on the tattoos. Some are just works of art - hence deserving of the term body art There are some great tattoos and so fascinating to hear stories behind them. And then there are some that look like were drawn up by their mate high on crack cocaine and gone to town on drawing on their mate who fell asleep after a binge. yikes! 😁 Personally I won't do it as I'm not a fan of pain and needles. And I wondered able to decide on the tattoos as knowing it's permanent, I really need to be sure it is.the right one. Maybe names of my kids and my mom. Maybe... 😉

..... but would hardly compare a tattoo to graffiti... Many races of people traditionally are tattooed as a display of cultural origin and personal status..even in Medieval history. For many it tells a story. For some it's an expression of who they are. For some, it's a memorial of who they have lost. Gee....tough one. Wondering if a Tattooist would enjoy being cast in the same mould as a graffiti artist. Great post chevtrek. Look forward to more responses - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Discovering' ..... but would hardly compare a tattoo to graffiti... For some it's a heartfelt tale of that culturally significant rites of passage - that time they wore a Bintang singlet and rode a moped drunk, so beautiful and culturally significant, you really do have to appreciate culture, right... Anyway, denigrating graffiti artists is as silly as saying "even a child can scrawl all over themselves with an ink pen, but very few people can create amazing street murals or the myriad effects and gradients some can with a spray can". I imagine many graffiti artists and tattoo artists have a great deal of respect for each other, or to have the general worldwide recognition of Banksy. A kid scrawling a tag with a spray can is as masterful as just scrawling with a tattoo gun (the latter is just harder come by, you likely can't take it out of Dad's shed). But they're not "artists", some tattoo work is just as artful as graffiti or fine art painting.

It depends on the quality of the work and the person. If it suits the person and its not a blurry sun damaged mess I think people can look great with tattoos especially if a lot of thought and creativity has gone into the design. But if its a cliche work, offensive or just plain cheap and ugly well thats a different story. Southern Cross.... just no....I guess all tattoos tell the story of the person and where they were in life when they got them. That is interesting to me.

Like all forms of artwork, I find some more appealing than the other, and overall I'm a bit of a fan. I have two, of which only one is occasionally visible. One was done after a lot of thought and was designed by the tattoo artist, the other was a 20 year old's idea of a bit of spontaneous fun. I dont' think one is more relevant and meaningful as the other. I was once 20 and now I'm 40, a bit of retained ink is just a small visible reminder of a life lived. My 20s were great fun :) If someone has me in doggy and spanks my ass, they might just ask me why I have a certain image there. One of many stories I might tell them Graffiti? Pfft. But then I don't think a bit of art on a wall at the Guggenheim isn't necessarily quantitatively different to a bit of street art on the walls of the streets of Newtown. Been to and enjoy them both.

Prejudice in any form is a pet peeve of mine. I have met some amazing men and women with tattoos. Some were perhaps errors of judgement when they were younger, others pieces of amazing art while others have a true and heartfelt meaning to the person. Some may not be beautiful or artistic to me and I'm not a fan of neck or face tattoos for aesthetic reasons of my own. Doesn't necessarily mean that person is a bad person or an idiot or unattractive. However, they are a part of that person and their history - it's part of what makes them who they are. I have tattoos that do not show when I am clothed. They mean a great deal to me and were a rite of passage after an absolutely terrible and dark time in my life. If that turns off a lover then that is their loss as it shows me they are looking at the surface not what lies beneath. They are a part of my life and my body. My choice to put an indelible sign on on my body that shows the courage of my convictions. It is a personal choice to tattoo or not and I respect each person's freedom to do so. Just do it safely and with awareness - and preferably some thought! ;)

Thankfully , that changed.. Being of part islander decent I started to appreciate the meaning of tribal art. It took approx 6 years from the time I started looking to the day I took the plunge. Why 6 years ? Because I was considering everyone else's opinion and ignoring my own. On top of that it took me that long to finally settle on what I wanted. I didn't just open a book and put my finger on the first thing that excited me. I took my time . I've now had my tribal tatt 2 years and have no regrets whatsoever . Most who see it are in favour. Even my older old fashion sister who turned her nose up, finally came around. I can't think of any females I know or have met say anything negative and I love it when they slowly trace it with their finger its a definate turn on.. It is a art form when done right , even I get peeved when I see tatt overkill. Moderation is the key. Dynamic Couple.. I find your comment insulting. If you got nothing good to say , keep it to yourself or share it with other likeminded negative people.. Can't help but think it's only Mr DC we ever hear from ?

Before you join the others on the proverbial band wagon, we did not denigrate nor insult tattoos. So kindly stop becoming defensive and taking offence. Chev simply asked a question and we answered. We are entitled to our opinion. We don't like tattoos and we don't like general grafitti, as the latter can become messy and an eyesore (in our opinion ) Banksy however is another story. Does this make us boring, losers, closed minded, prejudiced & superficial ? Tattoos are merely skin deep are they not ? Superficial skin decoration ? We feel, that in many instances, there is a parallel between tattoos & grafitti, in so many ways. It is our opinion and we are entitled to it. Yes we are pretty sure that some tattoos do tell a story, a right of passage. But then so does some grafitti. You get good grafitti and then you get bad grafitti, just as you get good art & bad art. The same applies to tattoos. We have seen some very "messy" ones, where more and more have been added over the years, and the result to us, looks like a proverbial fruit salad. But then we have also seen some well thought out, well designed & meticulously implemented tattoos. Fortunately we all have different likes, dislikes, tastes & opinions, to which we are entitled. We prefer circumcised penisis for example. Are you going to attack us for this too ? Clearly a chip on the shoulder in our opinion. Clearly bandwagoning as expected. - Posted from rhpmobile

On men or women :) Call me shallow but the art on ones body doesn't define a person for me. It tells me a little about them and their story :) I have 3, two reasonably larger ones and a small one - to like me is to like all of me, tattoos and all. I'm my very close minded circle of family and some friends they find them abhorrent, that only the 'low life types' have them. I'm an upstanding citizen, highly respected in my community and I'm a decent person. My tattoos were done in my 40s, it's my story of a part of my life where I've been exceptionally happy 😊 Most people who've seen them, in particular comment on the terrific art work. Mary xx

There are good and bad examples of both, but in general yes, I find them pretty hot - on men and women. I love the rockabilly chick look with victory rolls and full sleeves.. I adore the pin-up girl tattoos and am seriously contemplating getting one myself one day. On men I like the arm band style, I love how they highlight that incredibly hot dip between the delts and bicep/triceps muscles *drool* I also like large back and chest pieces on men. I have 3 myself, the most recent by a new local artist whose drawing I fell in love with (you can just see it on my hip in my current pic). I have another booked for February with a very popular tattoo artist that I've had to wait six months to get a booking with - I'm very excited.

Personally i think tattoos have an amplifying effect. In that, if youre attractive already, tattoos make you SUPER ATTRACTIVE! however if you arent very attractive naturally, then i think tattoos just make you 10x worse. Also depends on the tatts. I dont know anyone who thinks a southern cross tattoo or flames on knuckles is attractive. Just my 2c - Posted from rhpmobile

Gee......I had to go look at your pic 😉 I love tattoos which are well drawn (?not sure of the correct term) and have meaning for the person. For example, I am not a fan of Islander tatts on non-Islander men, I don't think it shows respect nor understanding for their culture. A friend of mine is working on a design which encapsulates her love for her deceased father and their close bond; every example I see makes my eyes well up as they are so beautiful. I don't have any myself, I don't think I could ever choose just one....

Personally I'd never get one. Not because I do t like them, but because I think tastes and preferences are so fluid. Today one might like it but tomorrow who knows. I change my mind about things often, I could not see myself in 40 years thinking about that tattoo I used to like. However I admire people who have them as they always have a story behind them and it's fascinating to hear about the reasons that made them get one. If they're done by a decent artist some are amazingly sexy. For what it's worth: DC just stop honouring their comments with replies. Ignoring them normally works best. :-) - Posted from rhpmobile

I find them sexy AF! But even when they aren't art work as such, I'm fascinated by them. The persons ink means at some point they decided to consciously personalise part of their body for life. And I'm not going to think any less of someone for doing something like that to their own body. Sometimes there's a beautiful meaning behind them, sometimes a hilarious story. I have three and plan on getting more. When I got my first one I was worried about the judgment. But I don't anymore. If people find me less attractive because I have them, then they haven't gotten to know me enough for me to care anyway. One thing I hate hearing is "She's such a beautiful girl, it's a shame she ruined her skin by getting a tattoo." Art is in the eyes of the wearer. I don't have any problems with people not finding them sexy. But I don't like people being judged for having them.

If you said you don't like tattoos for what ever reason , that's fine , but when you choose to lob tattoos and graffiti in the same sentence what do you expect ? It was offensive whichever way you say it. i don't know one person who's respect I lost by expressing who I am. If anything , it's the complete opposite..

I love tattoos, on men and women, I also like scarifications. I have plenty of tattoos (yes I mean plenty), yes they tell a story, MY story, yes I get plenty of looks (not all adoring looks) and that's ok, because I didn't get my tattoos for anyone else, I got them for me. So I'm ok if people don't like them, they don't have to, I've alway said I'm not everyone's cuppa tea and nor do I wish to be. My tattoos definitely don't define who I am, what kind of person I am, how educated I am, what I do for work, how I will treat you, what I'm like in the bedroom or if I have morals or not. But they do scream that I'm a pretty awesome chick who doesn't mind a bit of body art. 💋

We thought that "art is in the eyes of the beholder" ? Or is that beauty ? Unfortunately people are judged by their outward appearance. People are also judged (& labelled) by their accents and names , even here in PC Australia (we speak from personal experience). And there are stigmas attached to tattoos, piercings and other forms of body "art". It's just the way that it is. Try and get a corporate job if you have a face, neck & arms adjourned with tattoos & piercings - it won't be easy. One society may be more accepting of tattoos, and another not. It's a personal preference, to like them or not like them, at the end of the day. Unlike smoking, tattoos don't really have an impact on, or infringe on the rights of others (passive bystanders ) - Posted from rhpmobile

DC I understand your comment about smokers and take it to mean that it is rude and offensive to many if a smoker was to walk up beside wherever you are and spark up a dart. However maybe your words here could have been selected differently or explained a little further to make your views clearer since you brought it up. One could argue that if a smoker has the legal right to smoke in any particular location where they are not annoying anybody else, others have the right to not go near them.

Being very heavily tattooed (80% of my body)it's both amusing and often frustrating to live with the preconceived judgement of people both on the street and within the play community. I collected my tattoo work around the globe from specific artists based on their style and finesse. I am a professional in my field, educated and articulate. Yet often written off as a bogan or a criminal. Ideally it is just some pigment under the skin and a personal choice to mark oneself. It is also a personal choice to like or dislike them. I'm just hoping to connect with people that are open minded to the energy i can bring rather than some pigment under my skin. - Posted from rhpmobile

Sorry but if your ugly and fat a tattoo wont improve that at all. Each to there own but deep down we all know why men and women choose to get tattoos Image is everything these days!!! Interesting! Could you please elaborate on why "ugly and fat"has any relevance to whether someone is "eligible" to wear a tattoo....just so we all can be clear on your view. We find a statement like that to be pretty harsh. At your age in life....let's hope that when life takes you further down the road...that you are lucky to possess that 37 year old body and appearance for your entirety. And for the record...our tattoos were for us and not too bolster our personal image and we are content in the way we look. We believe that a person is more sexy in their mind than what shows on the outside and we go by the old cliche "don't judge a book by its cover." However..you don't stand alone here with your view on this matter...For your sake we hope you are circumcised, a non smoker, professionally employed only and not a meerkat! - Posted from rhpmobile

Now there's being a dickhead and being a cockhead. How the fuck do you get Daddy issues out of woman having tattoos?

Yep. Read that and scratched my noggin. Can't see the correlation. @30sgguy. Maybe you can explain that? This would be interesting.

"Daddy, it's my body and I can do with it whatever I want!" But can it be mummy as well ?

I have two tattoos. Neither were added to my body because I wanted the attention, or because I have issues, daddy or otherwise. Mine are easily covered up, so it's my choice of clothing that makes them visible or not. My next one, which I've already planned and will be getting soon, is a statement piece for me - small and significant. As to whether I find them sexy or not - I always find the stories behind people's ink fascinating. I remember the first time I met Lovinit, asking her about the beautiful work that adorns her body. Ink by itself isn't necessarily something I find sexy, but if it's on a fascinating person with interesting stories to tell, then yes, it adds to the overall sex appeal.

Personally I love tattoos I have them and want more. I know some people get home jobs but I guess it's their body's and they can do what they like :) - Posted from rhpmobile

Love tats, though do not like them on hands, neck, face etc. Hubby has a full back piece and half sleeve, all of which are meaingful to him. I have a coverup from an early mistake but love it, and plan on getting more, again which will be meaningful to me - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'lilyorchid' Yep. Read that and scratched my noggin. Can't see the correlation. correlation or causation? Depends if you're looking at "girls with daddy issues - those that get tattoos vs those that don't" or "girls who get tattoos - ones with daddy issues vs ones with none", or did sxy30sGCguy mean "number of tattoos is correlated to Daddy issues"... maybe he'll conduct the experiment and provide us with an answer. I look forward to the results and how it's been modeled :) (I shall not hold my breath though) (Maybe he could start a thread and have a simple show of hands ;) or "how many tats? and how big are your issues, on a scale of 0 to Lindsay Lohan? ) Stirry: is a trampoline stamp extra good for bouncing off?

On women, then sometimes they're OK, but they need to choose something elegant, to enhance their feminine qualities... I can't stand them on men, and especially if you have a whole sleeve or leg done. They just scream 'bogan' at me, and I'm looking for a gentleman of refined tastes. ;)

They ruin a woman's natural beauty, so its a Minor turnoff. While for men; then can somewhat compliment a good body.. but then you think to yourself; this guy just wasted a lot of money on Tattoos ... what else does he waste money on..

One day, our skin will be wrinkled and spotted, and our tattoos will be faded and won't look as pretty as they do when we're young. And is that an argument against tattoos? Well, it's all true, but when I start thinking like that, I hope I catch myself and think "Hang on...why am I caring what others might think of my appearance one day...and why am I letting that determine my decisions now?" If it's not too detrimental to my health, I think I'd rather live in the now...live a little spontaneously and live out my dreams and desires if I can...than to worry about what other people might( or might not ) think in some possible future.

Quoting 'Funfriendlyguy' Guys love the tough stickers to try and make themselves look more masculine then they have before. Girls love the attention they get form people asking about the tattoo. Sorry but if your ugly and fat a tattoo wont improve that at all. Each to there own but deep down we all know why men and women choose to get tattoos Image is everything these days!!! you must do a lot of masterbating

I find my tattoos are a great way to immediately remove judgmental people from my radar... which isn't a bad thing. I get the impression most goes don't mind based on the attention I got on dating sites. But I do have the tattooed, rockabilly look and I presume that adds to the appeal. Either way, like someone else mentioned we tattooed folk don't mind if you don't like them.. I never did them for anyone but me so not many people even know I have them.. Each to their own I say - plenty of fun on RHP for us all & isn't this site about being true to yourself and your desires? - Posted from rhpmobile
