Quoting 'Meander' Quoting 'BIGPIZZEL' My "cars" definitely define me. Just as they define anybody else. Can you back that up? Perhaps with some stats or research? (And why the "cars" in quotation marks? Are they pretend?) Don't open that Pandora's box and invite stats in this thread.!!! dont you dare! You know what happens. The thread will die a sudden death..

Quoting 'knightin14' I like my car to be practical. I work in an office but at weekends I like to camp and disappear into the bush. So, I drive a 10 year old dual cab. I don't use it enough to feel guilty about the engine size, it has 5 seats with the extra benefit of a tray. I'd love a lambo, but that'd be for my experience. The way I see it, your car doesn't define you. Your shoes however… that's something I notice. Haha. - Posted from rhpmobile You've knocked on the right door... Am practical and am into shoes... BTW, you do have lovely lips...

There's probably a 95% chance of that happing. :-P Let me rephrase: Pizzel, though I can see how their choice of car (or how clean they keep it) can tell you something about a person, the idea that it defines them is absolutely ludicrous in my humble opinion. Better?

but I sure do love anything that's fast and loud and pins me in my seat....the rumble of a v8 just cant be beaten... Total panty creamer. I also love bikes. I drive a very nice Mitsubishi ASZ brand new off the floor in sparkly red. Judge if you want I really don't care. - Posted from rhpmobile

Bet your kitchen looks and functions wonderful. ..... the kitchen was fine ...and produced many beautiful meals and happy family times .... but in reality it also heralded a change of ownership of the asset .... my 'thing' ... became 'her' thing (now no ones thing !) .... but the memories of the car linger on ...different to me than the memories of the kitchen ... (memories of a 3 year old squashing Sour Snakes into the back seat leather now make me grimace and smile simultaneously .... same kid bursting into that kitchen saying daddy just got caught by the police for speeding [did daddy get a piece of paper] .... nah .... they just talked for ever ... priceless )

I don't have one. I don't even drive. But as far as I'm concerned what defines me are my thoughts, values and actions, not material things- and I'm the one who gets to choose what defines me, not anybody else..

I don't know about being defined by it but I drive a Ford Focus XR5 and I'd love to rumble with you in the back seat. I'm also waiting for our new 2015 Ford Mustang to arrive. We paid our deposit last September and they tell us it should arrive before Christmas. Am I defined now??? ....How did I fare???

As long as your car can make it over here, I'm in. Swing left after the Great Dividing Range to pick up Mado and Tara then head south to me and my man. ...I'll leave the porch light on. xxx

Same mountain, if ya car can't make it up our drive unicorn, reckon we could take the high fire trail in the all terrain off road crane, you could get all comfy with Tara up on the counter weight, under the stars and enjoy the hydrostatic drive, light a candle out the back Jennylee we might be coming in rough'n ready mount'n folk style.

While I agree with some of the comments on here I also disagree with others. Is it fair to judge a person as "Shallow" or "Materialistic" just because they may care more about the type of car they drive than others? I don't believe it is, but that's just my opinion. My family is a car family. My father was a race car driver and I've grown up around all different kinds of cars because of that. So yes, you could say that the kind of cars we drive are important to us. To me, the kind of cars that I drive do give others an insight to the kind of person I am and the kinds of things that I like to do. We don't drive the kinds of cars that we do because we want to show off or because we think that we are better than anyone else, we drive them because we like them, we like the way they make us feel when we drive them and they are the only reasons. One of the cars I drive is a Mercedes SLK 350 hard top convertible... Judge all you like but until you've driven one on a summers day on a scenic drive with the roof down then you just don't understand how it makes you feel. Another of the cars I drive is a Landcruiser. I drive it on the beach when I take friends and family fishing and or camping. Also take it four wheel driving for a fun day out going where most people can't go and my dog just loves being able to jump in the back and come with us. Between my parents and I we have ten cars. Some imported in especially from the states, others from Germany and some are Australian. Most of them are V8's, one is even a V12. Does that make us shallow and materialistic? No, it just mean that we like cars. So don't judge people full stop, regardless of if they drive a 1974 Kingwood or 2015 Mustang. If I went on a date with a guy and he picked me up in an old banger, I couldn't care less, I'd care what kind of person he was.

I would never judge a person by what they drive as the old saying goes don't judge a book by its cover As for myself I have three cars each have there purpose 1 a work 4×4 2 a luxury suv because it's nice to drive and 3 an aussie muscle car I have had for years I put it down to a misspent childhood . At the end of the day each to there own but I know if a date commented negatively on my ride they would be walking

Quoting 'BIGPIZZEL' My "cars" definitely define me. Just as they define anybody else. no, you don't have to have the flashiest cars or bikes or boats but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PEOPLE! Make sure your car is respected. Both maintenance wise and clean! My daily car gets washed 3 times a week (grey water) and waxxed (1, 2 or sometimes 3 coats) once a week. I don't have any leaks, seeps, rattling, ticking or rust in ANY of my cars. (considering i have cars from the 60's and 70's I think thats pretty good?) Take care of your car and it'll take care of you! Happy to give advice/help anybody who wants to learn more? :) - Posted from rhpmobile good advice.

we have 3 hiluxs. a 91 with a v8, 2 late model luxs and mine is heavily modified. also have a mk1 escort project car a Harley, ebr and mrs has a kwaka ninja. we love our vehicles and both of us don't really care what others think. we are rev heads at heart and always will be. duz this define who we are? not really. if someone is as passionate for cars n bikes as we are then we will definitely get along, if not well no problem. lots of other stuff to talk about.we get our cars the way we want them, yes ive spent over 110000 on all our vehicles but that was my choice. the cars/bikes we drive/ride is what we wanted, not for anyone else or to impress

What a complete scumbag! There was a time when I used to obsess over cars, I even had a really done up twin turbo supra but now I really don't give a fuck about what car I drive, as long as it gets me to a and b and does not get me pulled over By the fuking pigs I'm happy :) I really don't like ppl who think they are all that because of the car they drive, I don't give 2 shits about what kind of car a person has. There are more important things in life then a stupid car it's just a materialistic thing

Just dont insult me after giving him a ride home (yep, no honey for him, lol) nor impose on me his ideals. I drive what I drive because it suits my lifestyle as a single working mom of two teenage boys. Practical approach to things. I should have let him walk. However, I would rather not stoop to his level. Taken the higher ground on this matter. Cheers.

I'm allowed to state my opinion of them especially when it comes down to them picking on you when you do drive a done up sports car, they only want to hassle you and give you unnecessary fines. Now that I drive a "normal" and under the radar car they never pull me over and I don't remember the last time they did. I just don't like traffic police the majority of them are pigs to me.

It all depends on whether the person is into cars or not! My life revolves around cars, so I feel that what I drive does play a part in defining who I am. How the hell can you judge someone like the OP who doesn't give a sh*t about cars based on his commuter??? If a guy purposefully buys a "sports car" like a Hyundai - he deserves every bit of crap he gets for it though!

But when they step outside of their own life and cast judgement on others, put them in the loser category and totally not worth your time. I used to like nice cars but then in the end, it is just a form of transport and I wish we had public transport systems so we didn't need them and having a car was an option. Much prefer European cities in that regard and the respect they have for cyclists. But that's my opinion and I cast no judgement on those who love their cars. But to judge you for what you drive, imagine the other things he'd judge you on - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Yourmindormine' in the end, it is just a form of transport and I wish we had public transport systems so we didn't need them and having a car was an option. Much prefer European cities in that regard and the respect they have for cyclists. After having to fork out nearly a grand on my car today I'm thinking that too. Unfortunately where I live the public transport is utterly shit and if you don't have your own car your life is extremely difficult.

I myself am a car person and my own opinion is that a car can bring someone's sex appeal up or down if you are to take them on face value.ie average Sally in a hotted up car is way sexier than if she was seen driving a festiva - Posted from rhpmobile

I drive for myself not for others! For that matter... I do most things for myself not for others... I wear clothes that I like... and yes they say something about me... I live in a house and it tells a story... I have my hair cut the way I want it... and my hairdresser always wants to colour it and cut it the way he wants it... but it is mine! My main car is old...I bought it when I was 21 and it is a part of me... my second car was my fathers and I love driving it because he is not here and I feel him through it... He worked hard so he could own a Jaguar... it meant a lot to him and it means a lot to me. My cars make me feel wonderful... but not because of what the communicate to other people.

Quoting 'QLDtwo4fun' I think my needs define the car I own. Motorbikes are a different matter, they are more frivolous. Do I really need one, or just like them. Bikes are handy and functional. When I had a long term contract (13months) in Sydney many moons ago, I did the Fifo thing and lived in an apartment in Kirribilli. My main transport was public transport and walking. I bought a mountain bike to get me to work to North Sydney (walk 20mins uphill) but gave up as the hills to and from work was a killer. Test of fitness then and I failed. Lol. Then I bought a small motorbike (Yamaha Virago Xv250) to get around. Handy and easy to maintain, cheap to run and also easy to park. Loved it. It was more for function and economy than speed or show. Got me around Sydney's crazy streets (so many one way streets!!!) and cut thru traffic jams and solved parking woes. Love it when I have to go to functions and meetings in city and can park my bike fir free in downtown Sydney.

I think whether your car reflects your personality depends on two things: Your budget: you might want a BMW but can only afford what was within your price range at the time How important a car is to you: me.....I'm really into cars, especially utes and it's more than just a means of transport to me. To some, it's just a way of getting where they want to go. I have a ute that's been modified to sound somewhat like a V8. I show it in comps and I'm proud of it. Not many women see my ute and say "ooooh I like your ute" but several guys do. I work in an office and wear a skirt, stockings and heels (and a top too of course😋). So I park my car at work which can be heard before it's seen and out I get in a work uniform that probably looks like I'd be driving a sedan of some kind. Sometimes I feel like I live two different lives. Anyone who feels they're too good to get into whatever you drive obviously feels what you drive is more important than the person you are.

...but are just as much a viable only means of transport as a car. I got into bikes at 17 because I was a poor apprentice and it was a practical decision then...I have a car license but I drive like a beginner. The only time I've owned one was when I had a partner and we bought a Navara together...partly to carry our dirt bikes...but when we broke up I was happy to let her keep the car, my 3 bikes provide me with transport, don't take up much space and are long since paid for. Do they define me? No, I don't think so...or only in the sense that they affirm I am something of a loner. Keeping only motorbikes wouldn't be a practical decision for one with a family or even as a couple...they're very much a solo pastime...their ability to carry a passenger is usually just a concession to help sell them as many bikes do not even come with pillion grab handles these days, and the back seat on a sports bike is a torture device for the brave! But they give me pleasure as well as transport, and each has a distinct raison d'etre or purpose. The big Yamaha R1 is reliable and exciting in the way that only excessive machines can be, but has carried me safely across the country several times. Viva Japanese engineering. Then there's the KTM 625, an oversized dirt bike that I've turned into something that I would ride around the country on, regardless of terrain. I once tried just that but had to admit defeat. It's quietly waiting there for its next call to purpose. And finally the KTM 525 Supermoto, a former dirt bike that once existed to teach me to ride on the dirt, but since living back in the city I turned it into a very limited purpose road machine with sporty road wheels and brakes. Uncomfortable and high maintenance, it's extremely raw and exciting to ride...forget passengers and practicality...this one is just for the thrill. It may be excessive of me to keep 3 machines on the road, but I work very hard and it's important to reward myself if I can afford it...if I don't take pleasure now and again, what am I doing it all for? They're an investment in my sanity I suppose.

An interesting question. Maybe the car we drive defines the woman in our lives??? A few years ago I drove an Italian Lancia sports sedan. And I loved it. When you got into it was like putting on Not a powerful car but very fast. An excellent business car when long distances are involved. A new lady friend decided that we had to have something bigger and more (visibly) prestigious. Being a dutiful male, I purchased a Mercedes (that is what she wanted). We then became a two Mercedes family. I hated the Merc. It was not in any way an extension of my personality and my clients often made remarks about the size of my fee accounts. The woman left, took her Mercedes (and the house).Today I am retired and drive a Honda Civic (and love it). But I still pine for that Lancia car. What does that say about me?
