Did you get cortisone injected? I had two injections of cortisone into my spinal canal early this year. I have degenerative discs and that was the only thing that has finally given me relief. Definitely got worse there for a bit before it got better. Mine also included and epidural block so I had 24 hours pain free each injection.
-

Had same Missb4u, ended up having a disc fused in Feb 1, then a screw moved in my spine and had to undergo same OP again, hence 2 fused discs. Those injections feel weird even with a local, I think the local was worse.

Mine also included and epidural block so I had 24 hours pain free each injection. Yes, exactly the same thing - have 2 discs which are degenerating - this is my third injection in 4 years - has been 2 years since my last, which is pretty good. Yep, also get the anaesthetic with the steroid, has kicked in now - thank goodness. I don't seem to get the 'worse before better' bit, thankfully. Next step for me is an MRI to determine the level of degeneration and to look at alternatives - would prefer to avoid surgery, if possible, especially fusing... Yoga and physio help, but when they go, like now, even the oral steroids do nothing, so epidural it is

Yes I get that, when I have an episode there is nothing that works to relive the pain and I can't do anything, can't sit, can't stand, can barely lay down. I only discovered this last November. I had my 2 injections within weeks of each other and it took a couple of months to settle down to a pain free state. I have found core strength vitally important, light exercise, and losing weight. Hope it's all ok for you and surgery can be avoided. Navman - hope its holding up for you. I'm not at the surgery stage and hope that's a way off yet. However I watched a graphic last week on the disc replacements they now do and that looked amazing, way better option than fusing

My lovely friend, I truly hope that you will find some long lasting relief with your treatment. Back problems are of course hard to ignore, or find effective longer term relief for without some further forms of treatment. I hope that it won't come to that for you. Also to the others who have mentioned above who are in similar predicaments. I hope that there will be more effective treatments found that will suit you all in one form or another, and will then be able to keep you in much further comfort. Tall

Is the way of the future, we're putting a lot more of those in than we are doing posterior screw fusions these days. Another option is lateral fusions. No muscle cut and the rehab is very quick by comparison. Spinal surgery has come a long way in the time I've been working in neurosurgery.

That's what I was supposed to have done when I had my back surgery. Artificial disc at L4 and fusion of L5/S1. Despite all the pre testing, when the surgeon went in L3 was apparently to unstable to take the joint. Woke up to find they had fused L4 to S1. But had the joys of recovering from a massive abdominal incision and muscle cutting as a result. I've seen a lot of the incisions used and mine is one of the largest I've seen. I'm a lot more restricted with movement now which has been hard being someone who was always extremely flexible (although I can still touch my nose with my toes 😉) My legs go dead if I sit for more than five minutes, I have left leg weakness and some numbness on one thigh. And worst of all a ghastly and crooked scar that looks like a speed bump going more than half way across my tummy. Despite all of this I don't regret it because it was a matter of being able to continue to walk or not. I've also got discs that don't play nicely in my thoracic and cervical spine though and have done since before the surgery. And mine was six years ago now, so although not that long, more advances have been made since then. Betty you can keep messaging me too gorgeous xx

Quoting 'Leon888' What advances have been made in scoliosis -besides screwing rods to fuse backbone? I'm afraid... When I've been involved in scoli cases, we usually do it in two parts. Cages put into the disc space laterally and then posterior screws with rods a few days later. The problem with scoliosis is that there is abnormal bone growth called osteophytes that form over the years and that bone has to be removed in order for the spine to be straightened - that can't be done via minimally invasive surgery. Also the titanium rods are needed to provide the strength and framework for the corrected anatomy.

I made a huge mistake this morning and feel that I have stuffed something up that could have been good. It has made me think about how fragile connection is and how easily it can be gone. Although I am feeling sad by the event it has made me think and be more clear about a lot of things in my life and what I want. I guess I've learnt from the mistake which is always a good thing right? The biggest thing I have learnt is to put my glasses on so I can see wtf I'm doing! xx

I don't like it, I find it offensive, the second half sounds like the end of retard, don't know if it is but that's making fun of people with mental disability, not somewhere we should be going with our language. And yes I know I'm not perfect and have let rip at the odd person on occasion, no regrets there either btw i can deliver when it's deserved, but as a general word to throw around, I think it's like cunt when used as an adjective lol I think it's supposed to offend, certainly by some on here I've seen using it, which doesn't make them look good, my thoughts, have a great day
