Motorbikes in profile pics

March 17 2012

Not sure why, and perhaps asking for some clarification here, but why do people post photos of their motorbikes?? Is it a way to share a hobby or interest in the hope they meet people with similar tastes? Should I be posting photos of travel destinations then or hubby post shots of his surfboards? I am in no way being critical, just very curious as to why so many people choose to do so in their profile pics. Please shed some light. Xxxx Ps - personally a little skin or some lovely eyes gets my attention more than some metal that makes some noise and goes fast. But that's just me....

Fair question. For me I think it shows that I'm not a couch potato or spending all my time in a pub or tab or even at the pc all day.. I get the same buzz riding my bike as windsurfing when it's blowing a hooley.

funny how your name is 'backonthebike'I guess it shows what the person enjoys, riding motorbikes around requires some skill and with that skill comes respect. I'm not exactly sure if your talking about profile pics with only a bike in it, but i have seen a few motorbike profile pics on here with the person onr it. Also it looks hot when a womans standing over a bike. My 2 cents

My bike is just sooo very sexy and she's got two tailpipes! TWO! Damn what a figure..... and when I straddle her, finger her start button... Grab a fist full of throttle.... that angry growl is unmistakable. Hugs Stalky

Some people identify themselves by their passions. Motorcycles, for some, is a lifestyle. I chose to display my tattoos as they carry a great deal of significance for me. Now, on the other side of the coin, while I own four motorcycles, I don't wish to be taken as a lifestyle biker. I also have two classic cars in the shed awaiting restoration. My interests are varied and my tattoos were actually selected to represent this. Long story for another thread perhaps.

But that's just me....I could of course be totally wrong.By the way how did you come up with that name, or am i just going senile (more) and missed the obvious?Feloniusly felonius

Motorcycling, unlike say, golf, surfing or fishing, is a special category of interest/hobby. As any keen motorcyclists knows (and sometimes hard to explain to a car-only driver), very few interests bind as universally as the act of riding a motorcycle.Roll up to any pub/cafe/petrol bowser and it's not a challenge to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, merely due to a common interest in bikes.OK.. the whole dynamics of Harley/non-Harley, Ducati/non-Ducati, patch/non-patch aside...but generally, bike riders are a social lot. Bike riders on Pie just have that extra dimension topping off the riding fun.I guess the desire to include bike pics as part of ones profile is also due to many riders seeing their bikes as an extension of their personality. No, not necessarily the "big red sports car = small man" cliche. Yes, I admit I call mine the Red Metal Woman and she demands utmost respect from me.Stalky, yours is (still?) a triple so clearly you like triple the fun.

bikes etc may be an indication of who the person is, or what their interests are.... it may even portray the image they like others to see..... having said that, we own bikes, and have pics of the current machines, and the one we hope to purchase. its just one of those things, and not too much should be read into it one way or the other.....bikes, cars, the fish we caught last sunday, or the shoes we like.....are just pics. we'd rather see these, than none at all..........

Very sexy , love it when they pull up beside me when I drive. I can feel that bikes purrrrr right into my panties.   Love the leathers as well   today they had cops on bikes at the Mandurah Crab Festival, The were letting the kids sit on the bikes and get pictures taken   I wanted to yank the kid of the bike , and jump right on the bike and the cop. But then people would be yelling cover your eyes, while others would be taking snaps of a different kind

A picture of a bike all on it's lonesome is a little weird I must admit, but a man on a bike....yum.I recently met a man on here whose profile photo was of him ,his bike and his leathers. He is the nicest sweetest person, and very sexy with his long hair and beard. He told me that most women on here aren't interested in him because he rides bikes....silly them....lucky me.

I supposed its entirely up to how people choose to portray themselves. My income is derived from motorcycles. I live, eat and breathe the damn things. They are an extremely personal thing to me and home for me is on the bike, not wherever I sleep or where my stuff is housed. I have very few photos of me on bikes because I'm not really one for group rides or "action shots". I'm a bit of a loner like that so usually it's just me and the bike. I've put up some of the nicer photos I have of myself. Unfortunately none of them really include bikes, which is a shame, but I doubt that'll change any time soon.

all bikes have their appeal....and people like them or not, and ride a bike they choose as their own style.....I've owned and ridden bikes since i was 12....from Maicos (440) to Bultacos and 60's (real) Triumphs to Ducatis. all 4 Japanese manufacturers, BMW's and even a Vespa. and even a maniacal Turbo Z900 Kawasaki..but never a Harley. Its time, because theres nothing out there thats quite as comfortable on a long haul, as a Harley Tourer. none of the bikes I've owned (not even that orange Postie bike) made me feel "gay"....they just allowed me to feel 'free'......and that has to be a good thing doesnt it?

My Harley's an 883 Sporty. It was cheaper than a Trumpy and more comfy. With my bad back, I can't ride sportsbikes 'cause I can't sit hunched over for extended periods and I can't ride most cruisers 'cause the feet forward position puts too much pressure on the base of my spine. The Sporty is more comfy than driving a car. My '74 Honda 750/4 is my favourite but I last longer on the Sporty.

I remember a discussion I had with a member of the Japanese Cruiser club. His girlfriend was a friend of Jenny Lee's so I was making polite conversation. It wasn't easy 'cause the man was a dick. He couldn't utter a sentence without including "fuck" or "fuckin'" two or three times. I had asked whether it would be alright for Jen and I to go for a ride along, on one of the club's runs, on my Honda. He said 'no' because the club was for Japanese cruisers not Japanese classics. Then he started going on about how annoyed he was with the bikes the club was allowing. They had expanded to include European Cruisers like the (then) new BMW. He didn't like that. He also didn't like the Triumph Thunderbird, the Moto Guzzi California or even the Honda Valkyrie. There was an arguement within the club as to how to define a cruiser and it was decided that any bike that was featured in the 'Cruiser' magazines and marketted as a cruiser would be acceptable as long as it wasn't a Harley. This mob had a real hatred of Harleys and their riders. Still, this didn't suit this bloke. In his venerable opinion, a cruiser must have an inline V-twin and a two up seat. "So it has to be a bike that looks like a Harley but isn't one. Right?" I asked. "Fuckin' oath!" Was the reply. Every member of this club was a bigot against Harleys and this bloke was the worst. Jenny's friend eventually broke free of this arrogant dick but not before having the pleasure of seeing him and several of his friends get the shit kicked out of them at the Anniversary Stone Run for being too loud mouthed against Harleys. Harleys are quality motorcycles, MistressT. Try not to be as bigoted as these buffoons.

If you happen to be feeling bored, check out the Aus government's recalls website....you'll find that the manufacturer with the most recalls is Buell, then Harley, then Ducati. Ducatis always had a bad reputation as far as reliability went but that's an Italian thing. Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, Alfa, they were all hard to keep on the road but they were all built with such flair, that the enthusiastic owners didn't care. You may or may not be aware that Buells are Harleys, so that's a double blow. Still, those statistics may be misleading, depending on what the recalls were due to. Harleys are solidly built and my little sporty is the most reliable bike I've had. Runs like clockwork, never let me down. I expect that this is the norm for modern bikes, competition being as it is, everyone needs to be at the top of their game. As I've already mentioned I own several breeds of motorcycle. I'm not the kind to say, "this brand is the best and all others are shit". At the time I bought my Harley, it was the very best compromise between comfort and price I could find. The Honda VT750S came out several months later. Had it come out sooner, there's a good chance that I might have chosen it but only because it was a few hundred cheaper. The sporty has given me nothing to complain about.

Ducs now come with a 2 yr unlimited Km warranty....and some include all servicing.... its a gamble they gladly make. Last Monster i had only had spanners on it for services, tyres and chains.......   Kawasaki blew me away last year....i had a catastrophic engine failure on my '06 Meanstreak 1600.... and they covered a complete engine rebuild, parts and labour included, even though it was well and truly out of warranty.... bike has 38K on the clock and looks like new, so the dealer went to bat for me, and sealed a sensational deal....woohoo....

Well, white leathers, certain brands painted pink, there is no doubt! But hey, they look cool and lovely..Paint it Black the only way to go, with black sleeveless leathers, Black helmet, and skull type pattern scarf tied around face instead of a visor on the helmet, the loud sound like a bike is meant to make as it accelerates into the distance, with a hot chick on the back. A real Biker on a real Bike!It would make a brilliant profile picture.

I didn't mean to imply that Ducatis were still unreliable. I was refering to the (distant) past. As I said, these days all manufacturers need to be at the top of their game. As I understand it, the Italians have even managed to make Ferraris reliable (and no, cavey, Ferraris still don't make bikes). Quoting 'gtbi_mm' I had a virago 1100 and did not have a problem with it...... Harleys: don’t like them just a waste of space in me shed..... we bought the Meanie as an experiment...to see if we liked the cruiser.... its was in 'as new' condition, and a steal...its fitted with the brakes and suspension off the Ninja 1400, so handles and stops better than any non ABS cruiser...this is the bike that prompted the Boulevard from Suzuki, and the Vrod from Harley, Suzuki even sold it under licence as the "Marauder"....its not a Harley.... it might vaguely look like one...but only to a novice or 'non biker'......in fact when we buy the Harley we'll be sacrificing performance and handling. big time. at this stage i am still considering keeping it as my daily ride, as its truckloads of fun...and with the rebuild is a bit of a surprise package.....and a pleasure to ride........

What does a cock pic say (apart for I like to fuck?) all guys have a cock... What does a pussy pic say (here is a hole fuck me?) all girls have a pussy.... This is something we all know I don’t get it!!!! I luv to see people with different pics up: be it, bikes, boats or camping as it tell you a lot about this person and what they like, a bike tell you they like to ride and get out, boats say they like the ocean and so on...... Pics tell a story about this person, who they are and what they like..... Some people like Harleys, some like Yamahas and Honda’s they are all fun and it reminds me of a add that got banded with I was in my 20’s...... It went like this: Girls if you like something hot and throbbing between your legs get on a Honda... then went on to tell you where the Honda shop was..... it did not go well and was very quickly remove from air.... I rather see people with pics in their profile than nothing at all.......

If you add a sexy woman with realistic attributes , not so bad.. But just innate objects ? I always feel these ppl use these objects as some kind of underlying fettish which they draw power from... ?I just dont get it... You're selling yourself aren't you ? not a motorbike ? lol...no..some of us are here also for the social side, and the networking etc...not just for sex, we have more than our fair share available, so not every conversation, or contact, need be one with sex as the driving force.... sex , here for us, is an interest, a diversion.... as are bikes, camping, wine, music, tattoos, forums etc etc etc.... bikes are something that brings huge amounts of people together from all over the world.... I'm member of a few associations, and clubs, and we socialize with people who ride. we ride with a couple of groups, and have travelled in groups where the bikes numbered in the hundreds.. bikes are a great 'leveller' and in some cases much much more than just an interest or passion...for some, bikes are a lifestyle...as much a part of a persons character, as swinging, or tattooing, or just about anything else you could think of.... 'bikers'....get ....'bikers'....and its not unusual or strange that 'non bikers' dont see or understand this... pics of bikes....may be making a statement, but its quite often directed at, and understood by......other bikers only..... we like our bikes...and our bike pics, and have had more than enough complimentary comments for sharing them, and we'd never consider not including them in our galleries...

From your last post it seems that, while you do ride, you don't "enjoy riding a motorcycle as much as the next man". As I've already posted, for some it is a lifestyle, an obsession. For better or for worse, when displaying their motorcycle, they are displaying who they are. Just because you (or anyone else) don't get it doesn't make it wrong. The picture will appeal to some and those are the one's that the picture is intended for.

Stop getting so defensive and accept that not everyone will like just what you like... we agree with jensman....this guys opinion is very blinkered and short sighted...we'd include anyone, regardless of what their interests were, so long as we liked what we saw and they presented themselves in an appropriate manner..... that we, and others, enjoy bikes, and make that known, opens up options that are not just 'limited' to sex.........and play with people who share similar outlooks and interests, in our experience, is much more rewarding, even if its only because it makes 'getting to know you' conversations more relaxed and natural...like i said before.... great 'levellers'........ common ground is a good place to begin any conversation isnt it?

hi all, ive been following this with interest, and have to agree with mikeandshel, it all comes down to physical attraction and similiar likes, i have a bike and although have no pic up{ this might change} i am often thrilled when i see a bike on someones profile, maybe it is just a biker thing, but it is a passion that is shared for a lot of people, and at least someone looking at a profile with a bike in it, they know what that person is about, i for one do not want a partner who hates bikes, but at end of the day, it is just a individuals way of expressing themselves and we all are different and should just be thankful we can express ourselves.

we believe people have the entirely wrong image of those amongst us who enjoy bikes and biking.... we think theres this perception of us being knuckle dragging neanderthals, who dont shave or shower, who wear the patch of some gang or another, and who, at the merest suggestion, will kidnap young women and drag them away for all night parties of drugs, depravity and gang rape.....or of us being not so young men stuffed into too small and too tight racing leathers, riding much too fast on race inspired machines of death, who weave recklessly in and out of traffic while laughing like maniacs on speed.......but we are neither..... most of us are respectable men, and many of us are fathers, or even grandfathers....and we are normal folk most of the time..indistinguishable from the majority of the population...we drive sensible cars, have mortgages, have decent jobs, own businesses, and even hold positions of responsiblity and authority....... we just like bikes....and obviously...those of us who do, who are members here, like sex as well....the 2 mix.....wonderfully.....much of the imagery surrounding motorcycles is sexy in some way....near nude and slinky women on shiny black and chrome beasts.....are sexy....good looking women in leather bike jackets, with tattoos...and attitude...are sexy.... good looking men in the right gear...on the right bike...are sexy.... that people are passionate about these things can absolutely add to their appeal.....and thats sexy too....

I'm losing focus as to what the thrust of the objection to bikes in photos has become.Based on the original posting, the curiosity appeared to be about profiles with a picture solely of the bike (or surfboard or fluffy toy or whatever) but correct me if I'm wrong OP.So are there otherwise objections to pictures of bikes, in shot, with the poster as well?Does this imply that pics should just be limited to a standard passport-style headshot and body shot (but don't dare wear anything else but beige for fear of being judged by the clothes one wears).Do we interpret from pictures too much about the personality/compatibility of someone standing on a beach? Beyond pictures, do we really need to read about wine and other habits. These clearly detract from profiles (that it is opined) should conform to what is apparently required for a "sex" site? Having analysed and smugly excised the relevance of having bikes in photos, should we proceed to analyse and excise the need for references to wine, travel and so forth from profiles.Profiles are about building an image of what a person is, what they're looking for, what makes them tick and what ticks their boxes. If pictures are implemented to facilitate that then all the better. If the inclusion of such a picture is sufficient for someone to click elsewhere then the pic has more than likely achieved its purpose for the poster.

Football is a lifestyle just like your bikes. Difference is' I reckonise the fact there are other things happening in the world besides football... and I do reckonise people have different tastes in lifestyles... and I RESPECT that... lol no... bikes are just an example..... oh, and I played...from juniors to under 21's here in Brisbane....but in multiple codes....it wasnt unusual for me to run on in 2 different jerseys for 2 different teams in the same day.... played 'rules, union and league.....sometimes on the same weekend...and coached soccer at times as well...but we grew up, and found other things to be passionate about...including now, each other........ our life doesnt revolve around bikes.... we barely have time to ride together, but its more a 'leveller' than football ever could be.. for us at least, and other here.. we are busy these days travelling and enjoying wineries and music, and relaxing with friends, or enjoying our grandchildren... but bikes are there,in the background, as its been our choice...or mine at least, and preferred method of transport ever since i was a young lad of 12 or so....   you made your point early in the piece...that it 'annoys you', which was fair enough, but then continued when we, and others took offense at someone elses 'blinkered' response........if it 'annoys you'....we invite you to not look at our profile and pics, to save offending your sensibilities....we recognise very well that theres much much more happening in the world...and contribute in very real ways to many of these....   this was conversational until you had your say....so how does it feel to be one of the ones who hijacked the thread and ruined it for those who were speaking in a positive manner? we like bikes...personally i really dislike football and footballers...havent watched a state of origin game in a decade or more....cant remember the last game...of any code....that i watched....but i'd not deliberately sabotage your conversation about football, or its appeal.....
