I'm not sure what you consider vulgar. what one considers common or colloquial may be vulgar to another and vice versa. It really depends on the background of the posters. In my time in the forums, I pretty much seen the lot and vulgarity is common from words and/or attitudes. I have learnt to accept and expect these instances in here as we do have people here who hide behind the keyboard and would be completely different in real life. Not a boo in real life. Lol. so nothing much shocks me anymore. Glad to hear that you and your mates still observe the gentlemanly decorum in public. That's just plain lovely and respectful. There is always a time and place for everything isn't it? Thanks for the thread.

I don't let things or other posters here affect me anymore. I ignore a few posters that I find offensive. After all, how they behave is not something I can control nor my business. I'm happy to manage my feelings and ensure my experience here is most enjoyable for myself. Best ignore the downers and negatives. 😉

None of that sort of behaviour in here. you're right, it's a good thing you put up a topic in this regard, us blokes should probably pay more attention to the crassness here in this public arena, there's no place us blokes can go and be as crass as we like, really stick it right up them, have a chuckle in privacy without any of them having a clue what we get up to when they're not around. But as you pointed out, there's a time and a place, you nailed it with also pointing out the differance and knowing it. Yep some blokes no matter what peers setting things on the straight and narrow, some blokes can't help themselves by slipping out of blowing the froth off a couple crass, to the crass that's boiling your blood. You've got me conscience on full alert now, any crass I see from now on in here where there is women, I'll stick to the rule of thumb, get stuck right into the silly buggers, tell them their timing stinks and get a hold themselves, another time another place, but not here. My views also extend to real life. Not just the forums which plays minuscule part of my life. I think most people are good and sensitive yet sometimes some act vulgar or crass as a front to hide something. Thing is that I can't be bothered to find out. 😄 Vulgarity is not something I'm raised with. I' was raised in a very proper and respectful family background. Almost sheltered growing up. Getting acquainted and exposed to crass behaviour started only after I moved out of home and at 17 to pursue my university studies. The university of life is more beneficial than the formal sheltered upbringing Grateful for that and toughened me up. I can swear like a sailor if I want to but I choose not to. Again. We are faced with choices every minute. My choice is to behave a.certain way that appease my soul and conscience and no one else. Others are free to live their lives as they choose, .positive or not, crass or not. Their business, their lives. 😊 Take care.

a story doing the rounds on social media not long ago, about a study that showed an association between more frequent swearing and higher IQs. Something to do with swearers also being more lateral, creative thinkers. Whatever the case, it's a mistake to judge people solely on the language they use. Personally, swearing on here doesn't bother me at all. My father has always sworn a lot so I've been used to it since I was a kid. I also swear quite a lot myself. I have two university degrees, am considered quite intelligent, and I know very well when it's ok to let fly with a few curse words, and when it's not appropriate to do so. I also think the whole not swearing around women thing is patronising rubbish. If you know you're around someone who doesn't like swearing - woman or man - then yes be respectful and refrain from doing it. Don't just refrain because you think all women are delicate flowers who need protecting lest they start swooning if they hear a few swear words.

I'm sure that most if not all of the people on the forum know that there is a high probability that they will see some colourful language. Also, as someone else mentioned, a lot depends on context. e.g. posters using swear words to abuse / name call other posters is not acceptable IMO.

Yes , swearing is a way of life these days for both sexes . If you care to re read my initial post you will see I said that , but it's not what I'm talking about. Presuming all females don't mind whatever comes out of a persons mouth is rubbish. Truth is ' they don't have the choice they just have to accept it because that's what's expected. Showing some respect is not patronising. Presuming all women don't mind is ? I don't know what having 2 Uni degrees has to do with dropping a mouth full on someone. I only have a plain everyday business diploma to my name , and I can swear with the best of them , but the difference is , I know when to bite my tongue..

..The mastery of language is such a beautiful thing. The same as writing. The inflections, the innuendos, the hints at current events or whatever....language is clever and beautiful when it's done well. In context. I think, if it comes across as vulgar or crass, then the user often doesn't know how to use it properly. That a word or phrase was once considered "crude", therefore must still be, is dated thinking. I think that words...like cars or motorcyles, for example...do mellow and take on a bit of shine with age. That shitheap that nobody thought was cool when it was new, is now an object of desire. Nostalgia, maybe? Words are the same. Look at Ozzy Man Reviews. He carefully uses the crude language and persona of someone we all thought was bleh....but he has more online followers than the Kardashians. These are just my thoughts. I think a lot when I'm in the mood.. 🙄

Grates on my nerves and always has........ Depends on the situation and what company you are in. Everyone as mentioned is different, morals, standards etc. When I was growing up I never heard my parents swear and the first time I heard the F-bomb come out of my mums mouth I was horrified. It is becoming more of the norm. Hearing the way my son swears on his xbox and the way he speaks to people is absolutely disgusting including the c word which he knows I hate. Apparently they all speak to each other this way. I find it hard to accept and deal with and sometimes when he gets agitated and lets it fly it actually causes me anxiety (having been in a verbally abusive relationship). I don't understand the total lack of respect and it is justified because there is no consequences. Often say to him that if he spoke to someone like that in person he would be punched in the face. Situational for me, mixed company etc. still have enough respect not to swear but I do at home and depends on who I am with.

In my opinion, if you are going to do something...do it right English being my second language....and i find it fascinating, how limited the language (or people who use it) when it comes to swearing... I have no issues at all, with someone using a few "fuckings" to describe a topic with that desired emphasis...lolBut when that is the only word they use (and maybe the threaded "C" word sometimes)...that gets a bit boring, to be honest...and to me it spells a lack of knowledge of their own tongue...they use the word because their mind is struggling to come up with anything more descriptive..... In my language the possibilities are endless...lolOne can conjure such colourful, passionate and entertaining sentences, using nothing but swear words...that it actually qualifies as art (Think they had a competition of languages once, where the participant had to swear for as long as he could, without actually repeating himself...now, that"s talent!)

Been following and I am surprised to say the least. I understand where jayme is coming from as I am always aware of my surroundings when it comes to being a little crass as that is just how I was brought up.. Yet here I don't think it matters too much as long as one isn't being derogative. It has become common language and everyday within most forms of media. I found Anti's comment on a persons upbringing an interesting one as this idea doesn't really cut it these days but when I was a child your first swear words if not influenced strongly by parents is at school and it was the kids from the less fortunate upbringings that bandied these swear words about. Yeah I swear like a trooper but knocked around crowds that do even been known to use the c word for emphasis while chatting with my mum but I know when to curb it. But the best use of the word cunt is that of endearment, mates and I used to call each other cuntybaws. But by far the best example is in the film 'Soft Fruit' (no spoilers though) beautiful and emotional film and funny as fuck.

This thread reminds me of the topic on Q&A the other night where Malcolm Turnbull's most recent announcement to ban ministers from sex with staffers. In respect of their position of power. I thought it made perfect sense but there were too many side issue thrown in that the point was lost in the shuffle. I digress, vulgar, I respect that there are times and places and a lil bit of respect goes a long way. But that's my personality. A reliance on swearing or cursing, whatever you want to call it comes across as childish and attention seeking to me. Selfish, rude and dominating too. I value language and what it is able to say beyond everyday expletives. Peachy

That’s the thing though, isn’t it IF society was gender neutral.... society would cease to exist as NOONE would be permitted to communicate on an all important sexual level without causing offence, populations would dwindle and die out as sex itself becomes offensive..... well.... many summarily see the male sex that way now. They’ve been quite effective at it too through their mock outrage and offence taking on behalf of others. Why? Strip away the identity of individuality and seek to enforce a blended, uniform and tolerant society.... through intolerance if a different opinion. But ultimately..... controlled societies rebel. Tell enough people what to think and what to do..... and eventually the pushback is very real.
